PROFILE OF AMBASSADOR EDDISON MENSAH AGBENYEGAH

His Excellency Eddison Mensah Agbenyegah is the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, The Permanent Representative of Ghana to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague, and the Alternate Governor of Ghana to the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) in Amsterdam.

He worked at various bureaux of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana since April 1999. He was a Deputy Director of State Protocol, Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, State House, Accra, from April 2015 to October 2016. He also served as a Deputy Director at the President’s Secretariat, Office of the President, The Castle-Osu, from January 2009 to August 2009. Prior to his arrival in the Netherlands, he was a director in-charge of Regional Integration and Head of the ECOWAS National Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Accra.

Ambassador Agbenyegah was the Deputy High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria from May 2021 to December 2024 and Acting High Commissioner at the same Mission from January 2025 to August 2025. His previous diplomatic postings were with the Ghana High Commission, New Delhi, India from October 2016 to October 2020; the Ghana Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil, from August 2003 to August 2007 and the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, from October 2009 to October 2013.

As part of his academic qualifications, Ambassador Agbenyegah holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree from the University of Ghana, Legon-Accra; a Master of Arts (MA) degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), Accra; and Master of Arts (MA) degree in Conflict, Peace and Security from the prestigious Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Accra, Ghana.

 

In addition, he has taken several professional and academic courses for capacity building and career development. These include an Advanced Negotiations Skills Training Course, organized by the Legon Centre for International Affairs & Diplomacy (LECIAD) and the ECOWAS Commission in 2013; a Course on Regional Integration in Africa, at the United Nations African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), Dakar, Senegal in 2014; UNITAR Regional Training Programme on Conflict Prevention and Peace-making in Africa, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2015; and an Online Training Programme on Making the African Continental Free Trade (AFCFTA) Work organized by the United Nations African Institute for Economic Development and Planning, Dakar, Senegal (IDEP), from 16th March, 2020 to 23rd April, 2020,

 

Outside Africa, he took part in the Seventh Winter Course on International Maritime Law organized by the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), New Delhi, India in December 2017; an Executive Training Program on National Branding and Public Diplomacy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore in November, 2018 in Singapore; and a workshop and skills training program in Negotiation and Mediation as an Instrument for Conflict Resolution, for ECOWAS High-level Staff and Representatives, at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations (Clingendael Institute), The Hague, Netherlands,  October/November, 2024.

Mr. Agbenyegah is married with three (3) children.
